Beitou was one of the top four major hot springs areas when Japanese ruled Taiwan. From the valley of Beitou Hot Springs, people can overlook Datun Mountain in the north, hot springs and sulfuric smoke down in the river and valley, Guanyin Mountain near Danshui River in the west and Shamao Mountain in the east. These mountains cover a vast area of land and there are a lot of scenic spots.

Beitou has two faces. Old Beitou is the area where the local people have lived and worked for over a century and is located around Beitou MRT Station and Beitou Market, while Xin Beitou (New Beitou) is the area around Xin Beitou MRT Station and Qinshui Park that was developed as a hot spring resort during the Japanese era (1895-1945).

The Xing Beitou Park faces Xing Beitou MRT station. At sunset, neighbors gather at the park to chat and relax. They roll up their pants and soak their feet in the hot springs. After heading north from Xing Beitou Park for 5 minutes, enter the Beitou Hot Springs Museum. There are 12 rooms which, by way of objects, multimedia and pictures, showcase the importance of hot spring's to Beitou's history. The public pools for men/women are reserved by the museum for public tours.
